JAKARTA – Imagining a beautiful and lush green garden at home is certainly very heartwarming. Roof gardens can be used as an attractive alternative to provide a natural atmosphere in your home area.

A roof garden can add to the economic value of a building because a residence equipped with a roof garden certainly feels more comfortable and visually beautiful. Roof gardens also have many benefits for our lives.

One of the benefits of a roof garden is that it can reduce heat into the building. Heat absorption into the building can be reduced by up to 10%.

This was confirmed by the architect Sukendro Sukendar. According to him, with a roof garden, we can save energy consumption by up to 60%, and the temperature in the room can drop at least 1-2 degrees Celsius depending on the size of the garden.

Not only able to provide fresh and cool air, the roof garden can also be an effective sound absorber. The presence of greenery, especially plants with rough leaf surfaces or jagged edges, is effective in reducing noise for residents in the house.

“Indeed, basically the roof garden has less role in the process of absorbing water into the earth. However, rainwater intake can be optimally absorbed and stored up to 30%,” said Sukendro.

Sukendro added that even the drain-off water can still be used to water plants or be used to meet other needs.

Although it is not visible directly from the outside, the roof garden is able to increase O2 levels in the air. Plants will photosynthesize with the help of solar energy which converts the harmful gas CO2 into O2, which is refreshing and much needed by living things.

“This increase in O2 levels also improves and improves air quality. In addition, the humidity of the air around the roof garden will increase because plants also carry out the transpiration process,” he said.
